When Does A Baby Need Shoes?
Imagine an “old time” photo of a mother holding her baby. Now, picture the baby’s feet. What do they look like? You are probably imagining pure white ankle high baby shoes with soles as hard as steel. Am I right?
Fortunately, baby footwear has come a long way. As a matter of fact, your baby doesn’t even need to wear shoes until he or she is walking! But when it comes time for shoes, don’t feel you have to spend a lot. After all, your little one is growing too fast to be wearing expensive footwear.
Your baby’s new shoes should be flexible, with at least ½ an inch of room between the toes and the tip of the shoe. Since your little one is beginning to walk, it is important that the soles of the shoe are made of a non-slip material. The shoes should be soft, lightweight and flexible. Avoid ankle-height shoes and choose something that will enable your child’s foot to breathe.
Finally, remember your baby is growing quickly – so check for that extra “wiggle room” in the toe every few weeks. You just might be surprised at how fast a child can grow out of shoes!
