At nine weeks, your baby is beginning to look more human, with a straighter
back and head. The muscles and the skeleton are quickly forming in your
baby. Additionally, the intestines that were once outside the body are now
moving into the body cavity. From head to bottom, your baby is about one
and a half inches long. Weighing only 1/7 of an ounce, your baby's pulse
might actually be detected with your OB/GYN's stethoscope!
Your baby is growing fingernails and toenails. The skin is forming more
rapidly, growing in layers and appearing translucent. Hair follicles are
underneath the skin. If your baby is a boy, his penis can be detected.
Female organs have yet to be visible. Your baby may also be able to close
his hands and eyes. A profile is visible with the developing nose as well.
