At week eight, your baby's arms and legs are developing quickly. Your
baby's arms are in the lead, which actually foreshadows the control your newborn
will have of his or her arms before mastering the legs. Fingers still have
webs, and arms are bent at the elbows.
Your baby's cartilage is beginning to turn into bone, forming the skeleton of
your child. The baby begins to move involuntarily in the womb! The
"C" shape of your baby is now elongating, while your baby's chin rests on the
chest. You can now recognize your baby as resting in the well known fetal
position. If your baby is a girl, her ovaries are descending as she grows.
This little one is now only 18 mm long. The eyes have strong
pigmentation and and the nostrils are pronounced. The eyes are on the side
but will move towards the middle of the head as your baby grows. Head
plates are forming well at this stage. An upper lip is now forming.
Lungs are more pronounced at 56 days. Internal organs are clearly forming
and are positioned where they need to be in the gut.
At this stage of your pregnancy, you may be ready to visit the maternity
store for more comfortable clothes. If you have already had a baby, you
may show sooner and feel larger than you did during your first pregnancy at this
stage.
