Your Baby - Week Seven

Weighing less than a paperclip, your baby is only half an inch long  at 44 days.  The tiniest buds appear for fingers as the eyes and ears are continuing to develop.  Interestingly, both male and female embryos develop milk lines in anticipation of mammary glands.  A male baby's penis will just begin to form at this stage.

Little feet and ankles begin to appear and eyelids are developing.  The skeleton is forming slowly, while blood circulates through every part of this growing miracle.  By the end of week seven, toes are appearing as well as fingers.  The ears are moving up toward their final resting place on the head.

At seven weeks, you have developed a mucus plug at the cervical canal opening which will provide protection for the uterus until you are ready to give birth.  You will lose this mucus plug during or just before labor as your cervix begins to dilate.
