Your Baby - Week Five

Although your baby has yet to resemble a true human form, the beginning of ears can be seen.  The eyes are just developing as well as the sinus cavity, and amazingly, slight forms of appendages are beginning to show.  The heart and brain of your baby continue to grow, with your child only at 3.5 millimeters long!  At this stage, the brain and the heart represent 50% of your fetus.

Eating properly is important to the healthy development of your fetus.  By this stage of your pregnancy, you should have seen your OB/GYN.  You will require prenatal vitamins that include iron, as well as regular prenatal care.  Pregnant women should not eat raw seafood or other potentially hazardous foods, including soft cheeses and even cooked fish.  It is best to limit your caffeine intake, and to stop all alcohol consumption.

Your OB/GYN will give you a list of safe medications to take during each trimester.
