Your Baby - Week Twenty-Seven

Google Ad

At twenty-seven weeks, your baby's eyes will start to open during waking times, and close during sleep.  Your baby's eyes are probably blue at this stage because the pigmentation is not fully developed.  Final development of eye pigmentation can only happen with light exposure, which will occur several weeks after your baby is born.  Your baby's central nervous system is developed enough to maintain correct body temperature as well as breathing.  A baby is capable of breathing air at 26 to 27 weeks.  If your baby was born now, he or she would have a good chance of survival.

Your baby is beginning to grow more fat as well as weight.  If you had an ultrasound today, you would be able to see a wonderful profile of your baby's face.

Mom, right now would be a good time to sign up for birthing classes at your local hospital.  You will be given a tour of the labor and delivery rooms and you will learn about labor, delivery and infant care.
