Your Baby - Week Twenty-Six

Lines are forming on the palms of your baby's hands.  Amazingly, the cells your baby will use for conscious thought are maturing, enabling him or her to learn and remember!  There was an actual study done in which babies at this stage were taught to kick at a particular vibration.  Your baby can hear and recognize your voice, as well as Dad's.  Talk to your baby and have your baby's father talk as well.  When your baby is born, he or she will turn toward your voice.  You will also be able to sooth your baby by voice alone after he or she is born.

Your baby's nostrils have opened, and he or she is beginning to practice "breathing."  The tubes leading to your baby's windpipe to the lungs (bronchi) are growing well.  Your baby is also developing patterns of sleeping and waking - although when your baby is born you may swear that nighttime was the only waking time for your baby!

From head to bottom, your baby is about 10 inches long and weighs just under two pounds.
