Your little one now weighs about one pound, and can be up to 20 centimeters
long. If your baby was born today, he or she would have a chance of
survival with possible disabilities. At twenty three weeks, your baby's
skin is wrinkled, but will fill out as he or she grows.
You may be experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions by week twenty three.
Your uterine muscles will contract, ripening in preparation for labor.
Braxton Hicks can be mild, but as your pregnancy continues, may become
uncomfortable to painful. You will feel a tightening of the uterus and
then a relaxation. The contractions are shorter than labor contractions,
and are not in regular intervals. If you are experiencing uncomfortable
Braxton Hicks contractions, lay down or sit if possible. Sometimes a warm
bath will help with discomfort. If your contractions remain regular after
resting, contact your OB/GYN. Braxton Hicks can occur if you are not
drinking enough water, so while you are resting, pour yourself a nice cool glass
of water.
