Your Baby - Week Eighteen

Your baby's ears have bones that are continuing to harden.  This means he or she can hear your voice, your tummy rumbling, and other noises around you!  Remember to watch your baby after he or she is born when you talk - your newborn will actually turn his or her head toward your voice even minutes into new life.  Your baby's eyes are formed enough to sense the beam of a flashlight.  Your baby's bones are hardening, or ossifying.  This is particularly true of the legs and clavicles.

Your placenta has grown to 1/2 inch or more and can be about three and a half inches across.   Your placenta will reach a pound by birth, an inch and a half thick and 8 to ten inches across.

You may see the linea nigra (a dark line) running down the center of your belly.  You may also develop hair on your belly, or a line of hair growing down from your naval.
