Your Baby - Week Sixteen

Your baby's forebrain is responsible for intellect, motor control and memory.  This is the cerebrum, which is now filling with wrinkles and pleats.  This expands the area of the cerebrum.  The less developed regions that control basic impulses such as balance, emotion and hunger are still growing.  The nerves of your baby's brain are becoming coated with a protective fat called myelin. 

If your baby is female, her uterus and vagina are now attached.  The fallopian tubes are forming as well.  If your baby is male, is testes are beginning to develop into the scrotum.

Your baby's hands may accidentally meet and grasp each other.  Your baby is able to form a fist.  This is amazing, considering he or she now weighs about 3.9 ounces and is about twelve centimeters in length from head to bottom.  If you could see your baby, you may see him or her make recognizable facial expressions.
