Week 39
Your placenta is a little over an inch thick and measures about eight to ten inches in diameter. Your amniotic sac contains about a quart of water. You may rupture your water before labor starts – even in a public place! It can happen in the hospital just before delivery as well. Some women find a slight leak that appears to be urine coming from their vagina.
By now, your baby will be 14 to 15 inches from crown to bottom and can weigh from 6 1/2 to 9 pounds! You are more than ready to deliver your baby. This can be the most exciting week of your pregnancy, as well as the most exhausting. You have probably developed a nesting instinct – the urge to clean and have everything in it’s place. Some women find huge bursts of energy – but do not give in to this and overwork yourself. You need every ounce of strength for the delivery of your beautiful baby!
