Early Signs of Pregnancy

Some mothers who have already experienced pregnancy will intuitively know they are expecting again.  In early pregnancy, a woman experiences high levels of progesterone, which she may recognize from earlier babies.  If you are newly pregnant, there are a few signs you may be noticing that can suggest you are expecting.

  • Your first indication of pregnancy may be a missed period.

  • In early pregnancy, you may find smells bothersome.  Foods, perfumes and other odors may cause queasiness.

  • Frequent urination may be a sign of early pregnancy.

  • Progesterone can cause tiredness in pregnant women.

  • Your tastes may change during pregnancy.  In addition to unusual cravings, an expectant mother may find certain foods distasteful.

  • Morning sickness, which can last all day.

  • Changes in your breasts, including soreness.  They may appear fuller with more prominent veins.  The areola may appear darker.

  • Constipation.

  • During early pregnancy, you may feel bloated.

  • Flatulence.

  • Weight gain.

  • Some women find they gag when brushing teeth during early pregnancy.

  • You may experience implantation bleeding, or a light bloody show when the egg attaches to the uterus.

  • You may experience headaches due to changes in circulation and hormone levels.

  • Dizziness or fainting.

  • Heartburn.

  • Higher basal body temperature, or your oral temperature first thing in the morning.  If you have been tracking your basal temperature with a special basal thermometer, you will see your temperature spike after ovulation.  If it continues to be higher than normal, you may be pregnant.
