Carrying Your Baby: The Rucksack or Tibetan Carry
When I had my second child, I was fortunate enough to have a Malawian woman living next door. It was she that taught me how to carry my baby hands free with a simple long piece of cloth. She called this a “rucksack,” and carried all three of her children this way. Some also refer to this method of carrying a baby as the Tibetan carry.
Here are two excellent videos that will show you how to carry both your infant and your toddler in a rucksack. Always be sure to have someone help you when you are first learning this method of baby carrying. The rucksack is a wonderful way to keep baby close and secure while keeping yourself hands free!

This is awesome. Thank you for posting. I have a 2 month old baby that wants to be carry all the time. I will try this. What kind of cloth material that’s good for this carrier?
Eva, I have seen many made from 100% cotton. The most important part is that it is strong enough to hold your baby and is something that can be washed. It can’t be so thick that you can’t tie it as well. Good luck… these are so wonderful!
